Subject: Youth Ministry June 2007
The Summer Camping Season has begun and we are excited about all the campers we will have this summer but, we can always fit in a few more. We do have some spaces left in our July camps and are still taking registrations. Please visit the Camp Noel Porter Web Site for more information and to download the registration forms. The web address is http://www.campnoelporter.com/. We have an exciting summer of event planned and are especially excited that we are going rafting each week this summer. We have already made one trip down the Truckee River and it was amazing. We saw lots of fish, birds and amazing scenery. Please share the web address with your young people.
Onto other fun stuff going on with the Youth Ministries Office. This summer we are going to be contacting each of the churches in the diocese to begin the process of starting the new Youth Ministries Network. I am asking each of the churches to identify at least one young person and one adult to represent their church to the area network. Each of these networks will work to develop some share youth ministry activities as well as provide a venue for me to come and be a support to the churches, youth workers and young people. I am especially excited about the chance to begin working with the Southwest Deanery as we create the program for the Convention Youth Event. If you are in the Southwest Deanery and would like to participate on the Design team please contact me via email at youth@dncweb.org. We will start this process this summer via phone conferences and begin meeting in person in late August. The other exciting news is that the New Youth Ministry Resource Guide is being finalized as I type this and should be in the mail in the next week or so. Each church should have a copy soon, if you do not receive one by the middle of July please contact the Youth Ministries Office and we will get one to you ASAP. This resource guide as lots of information for the youth ministry at your church or even how to get started on working with the young people in your church. It is also a living entity so we welcome your input to the guide and will share it with the rest of the Diocese. We are also working on a YAYA calendar that you will be able to post on your church bulletin board. This calendar will have all the dates of events sponsored by the Youth and Young Adult Department for the program year 2007-2008.
One date you should have on your calendar already is July 8-13, 2008. These are the dates for EYE (the Episcopal Youth Event). We will be taking a group to EYE and we need to start recruiting the young people and adults who would like to attend. If you are interesting in more information please visit the EYE website at http://www.eye2008.org/home .
I hope to hear from you all soon.
Peace,
Jon Ward, Youth Ministries Developer
